From Tuition Inspiration to Digital Distraction:My Painting Journey
It all started with a glimpse. I was in 6th grade, going to my evening tuition, when I saw my tuition teacher , sitting with a palette of colours. She was painting a canvas, her brush dancing across a white surface, transforming it into a vibrant landscape. I was mesmerized. It was like magic
I'd always doodled, but this was different. This was art. I begged my mother for a canvas, some paints, and a set of brushes. She bought them for me. And so my painting journey began.
Initially my attempts were... well, let's just say abstract, even when I was trying to paint a flower, It looked like messy blobs. But I love it, I loved the feel of brush in my hand, the way colours blended, the joy of creating something from nothing.
I'd spend hours in my room, lost in my own colourful world. The smell of paint filled the air, transporting me to a place where nothing else mattered. I tried to draw the same painting my tuition teacher drew. And thats how I completed my first painting, with a smile on my face I showed it to my mom and my family. And they all loved it.
One day I decided to show my paintings to my school class teacher. She looked at my canvases and loved my painting. "You have a spark", she said, " Keep painting ", she encouraged me. Her words were like a shot of pure sunshine.
Suddenly, I was " The artist" in school. Every teacher used to call me to do the artworkin schools fests. My friends used to gather around watching me paint. My class teacher encouraged me to participate in the scholl exhibition. I was excited and nervous as I hung my paintings. People actually looked at them and some even smiled.
Then came the poster making competition. I poured my heart into it, using every color I could find. And I won! I won the first place. A small Trophy, but it felt like a giant victory. I was on top of the world. My poster was displayed in the school corridor, and I felt like a real artist.
But then, the world changed, Covid 19 hit, and everything went online. School, tuition everything was on screen. And with screen came a whole new world of distractions. My mom gave me a new phone.
Initially I used to look up painting tutorials, to learn new techniques. But soon, the bright light of social media and online games took over. My canvas gathered dust in corner. The paint dried. The vibrant world I'd created on canvas faded, replaced by the glow of screen.
I missed the feel of paint on my fingers, the quiet satisfaction of finishing a piece. But the phone was always there, always buzzing, always demanding my attention. I'd scroll mindlessly, comparing my life to others, feeling uninspired.
Looking back, I realized how much I lost. The joy of creating the peace I found in painting, the scene of accomplishment, all replaced by feeling of digital distractions. I still have those canvases, stacked in a corner. They serve as a reminder, a silent plea to rediscover the artist within.
Maybe, one day, I'll pick up those brushes again. Maybe, one day, I'll find my way back to the canvas. Because even though the screen is bright, the colours of real painting are infinitely more vibrant. The world may have changed, but my passion for art remains. It's time to reconnect with the spark, to re ignite the flame that once burned so brightly.
As I sit here, surrounded by the remnants of my past creations, I feel a sense of longing, A longing to recapture the joy, the peace, and the sense of accomplishment that come with creating something beautiful. It's time to put down the the phone, to pick up the brush, and to rediscover the world of colours and creativity that once brought me so much happiness.
